                           THE FINAL GIFT
                           ****************

I held you my dear son throughout that nite and next day,
Until the time came for us to have to help you on your way.

Back at Thanksgiving Mommy's life shattered, so Grandma took you home in
the end,
With nothing but calm and constant care in her Ferret I.C.U. we hoped that
you would mend.

Miraculously you had survived the ECE's worst and Grandma and I prayed you'd
be all right,
Then a few months later on, so suddenly, came the fever, chills and panting
on that first fateful nite.

We'd always known your heart was so loving and big it should have been made
of pure gold,
But hearing that it was far TOO big was something we'd never expected to be
told.

At 7 or so years of age it had grown 3 to 4 times it's normal size,
Causing the spark of happiness and life to slowly begin leaving your eyes.

Just as before I again made my most solemn promise to you on that day,
The promise you would never suffer endlessly on, that if needed I would help
you on your way.

For the following 7 weeks after we'd been told, we loved, spoiled and gently
cared for you so,
At first you got better, yet the medicines could only help a short time and
eventually you'd still need to go.

Ever since the ECE, syringes Grandma still had to use to feed you each and
every day,
She even lovingly concocted your special Carob Yummy that you loved in every
way.

When I physically could not she cared for you and was there at our side in
the end no matter what it took,
I don't know how to thank her Squeek, not with any words nor even with a
dook.

We were told at the first you probably had two weeks or less from that day,
Yet your obvious will to live and to love helped you beat that by quite a
way.

Often on the pillow by my head, you nestled your cheek to mine as you
cuddled and slept,
Being your Mommy I softly but firmly held you close, as so many times I
silently wept.

We knew the time was drawing near as each day you grew more weak,
"We love you so very much, Oh God we'll miss you Squeek."

Then the final week arrived and the awful seizures came,
With severe hypersensitivity, confusion and fatigue that we just couldn't
tame.

In only a matter of days your eyes lost all their spark,
And with each of those passing days they grew more pained and more dark.

I knew then that your time to be here with us was now in the past,
It's just so unfair and it went by far too fast.

During those last weeks with you another painful crack opened deeply
across my heart,
It broke as we said, "We love you Squeek and we'll join you one
day", preparing for you to depart.

So my final gift that I'd promised, I've given now to you,
It was the most painful, most difficult thing I've ever had to do.

I held you lovingly in my arms as Rainbow Bridge we helped you to cross,
Tho we've gained another Guardian Angel Ferret Squeeker, we still suffer
your loss.

I had already asked sweet sister Racy in advance to meet you at the gate,
Trust in her and love her, as like you, she's a ferret 1st rate.

As for me, with your remaining Fang Gang siblings your Mommy must still
stay,
Yet I'm comforted in knowing that YOU'LL be there to help me when it's my
final day.

                     ---------------------------------
                            GOODBYE AGAIN TOO SOON
                            **********************

Twice more so soon my fragile heart would have to break,
As my two dearest Godson's had to fly to heaven's gate.

I loved you brother's Blackjack and Noodle with all of my heart,
But I had not the power to stop you from so soon having to depart.

I did all I could to make those last moments full of calm and love,
Then held your heads as Daddy David and I helped you on your journey above.

"Fly high and strong forever my babies all, until we meet again!"
