One of the shelter ferrets died yesterday. She became very ill very
suddenly- symptoms appeared Saturday mid-day and she went to the Rainbow
Bridge Monday morning. It appears to be kidney failure, but an autopsy will
be performed this week to find out exactly what caused her death. She had
come in with three other ferrets. Their owner had kept them in a cage
always, and never even bothered to name them. She was about two years old,
and had never been handled. I named her Calpurnia (after the character in
"To Kill a Mockingbird"), and she was very loved. She died comfortably,
knowing that people really were good, and did care about her, despite her
previous owner. A very bittersweet ending.

"Meg the Peg", the ferret with the snapped leg bones which had to be
surgically pinned together, has found a new home. She is going to a young
woman where she will be an only ferret (Meg prefers the company of people to
that of other ferrets) who is related to several ferret owners, and is
around ferrets all the time with the relatives. She is extremely excited
about getting Meg, and we know she will take good care of her. Meg
continues to recover, she now actually bounces!
