Hi, Tressie, and everyone else,

I agree with your comments about pet stores and ferrets from large
"farm" breeders. My comments about wanting to see "fancies" and
ferrets with genetic markers which may be an indicator for medical
issues referred only to adopting from shelters and doing rescues. My
concern is that ferrets in need of homes not be passed over simply
because of the color or pattern of their coat.

A genetic predisposition towards a certain condition is no guarantee
that the condition will exist or, even if it does, of shorter life
expectancy or higher medical bills. That was my point in bringing up
the cases of Nyssa and Chin Soon, who lived full, long lives. I also
wanted to point out that even a ferret with medical challenges can,
on the overall, be a wonderful pet.

My post should not be taken as an endorsement for large breeders,
questionable breeding practices or pet stores that sell kits.
