A bad thing happened to Gizmo today. We were at my Dad's house celebrating
Christmas when we noticed Gizmo was missing. He and Frasier are allowed to
run around their because my Dad & sister like these two clowns. He somehow
got into a small a/c closet, still don't know how, and found his way to some
d-con mouse poison. I should have induced vomiting but I didn't think he
ate any as he is pretty picky about what he eats. When we got home we
looked up the medical ferret faq and called the vet poison control number.
I then took him to an emergency vet hospital. They gave him a shot of
vitamin K and gave me a 30 day supply mixed with Karo syrup and told me to
give him .25 cc once a day. I wil also get him to our normal vet tomorrow.
He looks and acts ok so far. He did pass a very green stool before he got
to the vet. He passed a very light colored stool just a little bit ago. He
eats and acts normal. The rat poison has brodifacoum. A blood thinner.

I am not sure what to do now. We are keeping him seperated from Frasier so
they don't wrestle and Gizmo gets a cut or bruise or starts bleeding
internally.

Any suggestions are welcome... flames will be ignored---yes I know It is my
fault...I am trying now to help my dear little friend. Special thenks to
Pam Greene for having an emergency vet number on her page.

Please make sure your ferrets are safe in a different environment than thier
home.

Thanks for your time,

Tom & Connie
