Having enforced rest today so just saw something on animal planet which may
interest the folks who have the occasional ferret with megaespohagus. They
had a spaniel with it on, and then did two sets of radiographs. The first
set of x-rays was while eating a soft food mixed with barium to see how
much was coming back into the esophagus, and the second was later to see
how much was able to pass along properly. In the dog's case the amount
coming back wasn't large and the progression was good, so even though the
dog will eventually need a mercy shot the vets thought that help could be
gotten *by having the dog eat in an upright position standing on hind legs
so that the trunk was kept more vertical like in a biped*. Not having ever
had this problem here I don't know if this has been tried in early
megaesophagus in ferrets, but figured it might be worth mentioning for
feed-back or consideration.
