>Petsmart is a pet store. They have VOLUNTARILY decided not to sell cats

Not be alarmist??? Petsmart is a pet store.. they carry pet supplies.
Their policy is to not sell dogs and cats due to animals available in
shelter. What make you think ferrets should be treated any differently?
No one says their obligated by law, but they are obligated to treat all
animals the same as per their own written policies on their web site.

>...Why people give them crap, when they've gone way out of their way to
>be conscious of the problem of pet overpopulation, is beyond me....

If they are being conscious about overpopulation, which you state. Tell
me why they chose to sell them in Las Vegas when 24Ct shelter has over
90+ ferret between the shelter and foster homes in the city of Las Vegas?
They are not conscious, when they decided to test market ferrets in their
stores they became blinded by money plain and simple. That is what is
about markets! Do you honestly feel that they care about the welfare of
ferrets like they do cats and dogs? No, they are a simple commodity just
like the dog and cat food they sell.

>If you have a problem with the way ferrets are shipped (and there is a
>problem, although I'm not sure it's as radical as recently posted)...

True, that has to do with the farm and the airlines.

>I'm the Small Animal Specialist at Petco, meaning it's my job to

>chinchillas, and - you guess it - ferrets. I have spent so much time

>make sure they get their medications, etc.

I sure wish the other Petco's would take the time to make sure those that
were taking care of the small animals were like you. Unfortunately, most
are not.

>And, on top of that, Petco recently decided that if any employee feels
>that the customer will not be taking care of the companion animal (and

I would hope that to be the case.

Point in case, Petsmart like Petco is a store that sells pet supplies.
No animals should be sold in a store to whomever has money to buy them.
Animals should be adopted and their homes screened. If you want a
ferret, there are plenty of shelters out there and even breeders. With
all reputable breeders I know, screening their homes not shipping them
out of state to someone they never met. You want a dog or cat same thing
applies. Go rescue one. Got the humane society, local animal shelter
or places like here in Canton Texas where those breeders sell them for
profit and nothing else. Animals: dogs, cats, ferrets etc should not be
sold in stores period.

A mom to two adopted dogs, three rescued cats, 16 rescued and or adopted
ferrets.
