It sounds as though your ferret is feeling very insecure in his new
surroundings. From experience with my girl Sugar she behaved in a
similar way when I first had her. I tried to win her over by hand
feeding morsel by morsel (through the bars at first if she tries to
take your fingers as well). In Sugars case this worked like magic
although it took a couple of weeks before she would let me pick her
up.She is now the most gentle of ferrets and this came about gradually
over several months but she has never become a cuddle bug, very
reserved his how I would describe her. She gets on very well with
her companion Suki.

Tony (not a vet), Sugar and Suki.
In memory of Sally and Sue.
