One trick a good ferret vet can use is to play the "up-high" game with
the ferret while the vet is trying to listen to the heart and general
palpitations.  "Up high" is any place up above about 4 feet from the
floor.  The ferret becomes so fascinated by the whole new "world" that
it's being shown that they ignore just about anything else (forget the
temperature taking though).  Try it in your home.  Pick up your fuzzy
and show him/her the kitchen wall cabinets, curtains, pictures, etc.
Go where s/he points their nose; they'll show you were they want to go
to see.  Ours never tire of this game.
