My two boys are so smart that it often shocks me. A while ago we had a
plastic set of draws. You know the ones, 4 draws in a plastic stackable
frame. Well my George decided that he just had to get in the bottom
draw. He would lie on his back in front of the draw and paw at it until
it opened just a crack and then get up and use his head as a wedge until
the gap was large enough for a determined ferret to squeeze through.
Well, we put a brick in the bottom draw to stop that. George tried to
get in the front a few times and then promptly went to the back of the
draws, pushed the second draw open and then jumped into the bottom draw
from behind!

I am also positive they can understand every word I say. We recently
added a little girl to our household, they boys just would not accept
her so we got her another little girl to play with. This means separate
playtimes for the boys and the girls. I will let the boys out of their
room to run around the lounge and when they get tied and go to sleep I
will let the girls out for a run. Once the boys start to nap I turn to
my partner and say "Well the boys are asleep, I'll pop them away and give
the girls a run." As soon as I say this, presto there are my two boys
hopping across the floor. The first few times, I thought I'd just been
mistaken about them napping, however after watching the boys valiantly
trying to look 'playful' while constantly falling asleep on their feet
I realised what was really happening. They understood me! They didn't
want me to let the girls out to play. I experimented a few times and lo
and behold, every time I uttered those fateful words, the boys would drag
themselves up and pretend to play!

Re-enactment:Me: "Well the boys are asleep, I'll pop them away and give
the girls a run.
"Rusty: "No I'm not asleep, zzzzzz, I'm playing in this bag, zzzzzzz,
playing*, zzz, playing in the bag zzzzz.

George: I'm not asleep either I'm playing over here, zzzz I'll just rest
for a minute, zzzz. Look how frisky I am.. zzzz.
