With all of the talk of ADV going around, I had a question that I hadn't
seen addressed.
 
I know all about the testing of animals in the shelter, before they get
adopted out, but what about the ones coming into the shelters?  From what
I have heard, if you even come in contact with an ADV positive ferret, you
and the shelter are "forever" infected with the desease.  (I know this is
over-simplifying it but)
 
How would one protect the shelter from possible infected animals coming
into the shelter?  Is it feasible to have the persons "dumping" the
ferrets test them first?  How could you hope to verify the accuracy of
the test sample?
 
I kow we have only been a shelter for a short while compared to some of
the "big guys", but we also only want to do what is right for the ferrets
and are only looking for good, constructive advice.  If all you want to
do is tell how great you are, and how "bad" we are, don't bother.
 
If on the other hand, you can give us the advice in the spirit that it
was requested, then by all means, please do.
