French rodent? hahaha, that's a good one. when i worked at a practice in
Berkeley, CA, we coded all the ferret charts as:
Species: Feline   Breed: FSH
that would be ferret shorthair, as opposed to the common cat abbreviation,
dsh for domestic shorthair.
 
also, as far as the legality of taking ferrets to the vet goes, the vet
is allowed to treat the ferret as long as the owner is present, but is
not allowed to take possesion of the ferret at any time- i.e., if the
ferret is so sick that it needs to stay overnight, you have a problem.
technically, the vet could get in big trouble- it happened to a dvm
friend of mine out near concord, and he nearly lost his practice. not to
mention the ferret being confiscated. not something you normally need to
worry about, buy it doesn't hurt to be aware of the rules.
