I keep a spare ignition key in my car.  If there are animals in the car,
it is NEVER turned off in the summer.  I leave the car running, with A/C,
and lock it up.  A car can become deadly hot in a matter of minutes.  Of
course, the best rule is never to make stops with animals in the car, but
sometimes it can't be avoided.
