I too like Bobs articles .. As for a dirt box ,great idea...
 
But I would like to address the "possible" dangers of walking the fert
around the block.  There are many diseases out there that "might" pose a
risk.  I hope you have all your shots up-to-date, avoid children, one
bite and guess who's in court... But there are so many dangers that for
me , it wouldn't be prudent.
 
When we lived on our private beach I would take my massive weasel
(Maximus) to the sand and he would dig away, the salt in the sand kept it
somewhat sterile from most diseases but I did worry once when I found he
had eaten sea weed.  It passed and he was as normal as he was but after
studying animal diseases I would never take a pet out , frankly it's too
dangerous.
