Here is the information about the Alaskan court case which overturned the
State's classification of the ferret as a wild animal.

State of Alaska vs Robert J. Helfrich

Docket Number: 3AN-HB3-6210
Charge: Possession of Import into Alaska Live Game w/o Proper Permit
Ordinance/ Regulation: 5 AAC 81.130(a)
Date of Offense: 8/29/83

Finding of Judge John D. Mason on 5/11/84

"Defendant's Motion to Dismiss Granted. Court Holds: ferrets are domestic
animals and under AS 16 05 940 14 and 16 05 255 State (Dept. of F & G)
cannot regulate them; therefore 5 AAC 81 130 a & b will not be enforced
under criminal complaint in this case."

"ORDER IS: Case dismissed, State must return to defendant the ferrets
seized in this case within 10 days, unless ordered otherwise by a higher
