Hi, everyone,

I read the post by the person considering getting a ferret in California.
With all due respect for the California Outlaws on the list, I would advise
against it. As others have pointed out, you are endangering the life of
your ferret(s) if you are not extremely careful. Let me make clear that I
practice what I preach.

I used to live in the Bay Area (San Francisco and Palo Alto, to be
specific) and I think it's a wonderful place to live. I am working for a
large computer manufacturer's consulting/service division as a Senior
Network Engineer in North Carolina, and honestly, I've not been that happy
on my job. I have been contacted on three separate occasions by companies
who had wonderful sounding jobs in the Bay Area, all paying a whole lot
more than I earn, as in more than enough more to compensate for the
difference in the cost of living. All of these positions would have moved
my career forward, and offered me the kind of challenge I'd really enjoy.
I've turned all three companies down.

Why? I am not willing to give up my babies, and I am not willing to put my
life in danger. How in the world do you find an apartment in a ferret free
zone when you have five fuzzies without endangering them? If I tell a
potential landlord, I am in great danger of being turned into CDF&G, am I
not? I really don't care about the insane law out there, but I very much
love my ferrets.

So... after the first of the year, with my current one year contract coming
towards it's end, I will begin a job search. I sure won't consider a
position that would mean living where ferrets are illegal. Call me crazy
if you'd like, but it's my life, and my happiness that are involved. My
ferrets make me happy in their funny, playful, affectionate way. I have
a decent, if not perfect, job, and I can find another in this area. The
extra money would be nice. The northern California climate and the
diversity of the Bay Area are wonderful. It isn't enough if my ferrets
aren't welcome.

All the best,
Caity
