In my town, there are a great many people who seem to know ferrets and/or
have them as pets. I take my fuzzies out often, and am always running into
people who know about them, which I personally find very refreshing.
However, there are always those few who don't know what they are. I'm in a
college town, and there happen to be a great many Asian people, many of whom
don't seem to know what a ferret is. I've been asked if they are squirrels,
rats, possums, baby bears (not kidding on that one, but it may have been a
language gap as we tried to explain ferrets)...but my favorite happened
today at the park. I was walking Clover, my sable, and a man was walking a
few feet away with his little boy (maybe three, four years old). The little
boy stopped when he saw the ferret, and his eyes got all big, and he said
"She has a pet chipmunk!" I thought it was pretty cute. I'm thinking of
making a "ferret pamphlet" to give out to people, as we get many questions
from people who want them as pets. Does anyone have any vital ferret tips
prospective ferret owners should have? I want to make sure I don't leave
anything important out. E-mail me either on the FML or personally. Thanks!
