Someone posted to a yahoo group I own this formula for fleas.

Spray bottle
Fill half with water
empty like 1/2 (one of those plastic lemons) Lemon juice into water
Big squeeze of "citrus" dish soap

A few minutes after the pet is sprayed you can see the fleas dying..
Not sure how often to spray this but it does work without the chemicals.
