Hi all,

My Daisy injured her left front leg a couple of days ago. She and the other
furkids were playing and bouncing on the couch. They all bounced off and
ran into the kitchen, when Daisy came back around the counter, her leg
folded underneath her. This occurred about a month ago as well but she was
back to normal within an hour. That has not been the case this time. She
went to the vet today and x-rays showed a dislocation of her elbow. The two
vets tried to reset the elbow but it kept popping back out. They agreed
that damage had been done long before I got her (I recently rescued her).
Now I seem to have to make a decision based on their recommendations. I
have two options: 1) surgically go into the joint and place pins (the
doctors feel that this might work but could have a potential for problems
later on), 2) amputation (both doctors feel that this is the better of the
two options in that ferrets seem to do well with three legs and that
problems may occur with the surgery and pin option which would eventually
result in having the limb amputated).

Does anyone have any experience with ferrets with amputated limbs? If so,
how well do they get around? Does anyone have any other suggestions or
alternatives? I do not have to make a decision until after the 4th, so any
and all suggestions/advice will be appreciated.

It seems that the only time I post is when I am in dire need of help and I
am eternally grateful for all the assistance and help that I have received
in the past and in the future (after all we are dealing with ferrets here
and they can't keep their nose out of anything especially that which is
sometimes a danger to them and most especially our hearts!!)

Thank you and take care

PS: You know that you are owned by ferrets when you drop a button and spend
2 1/2 hours looking for it (been there-done that!)
