That is an unusual experience and sounds like a bad batch of vaccine.
The vet can and should use the FDA or USDA reporting section. Vaccines
sometimes are made w a bad batch but other times they have been stored
wrong even by a distributor.

I am sorry that you went through it.

We do titers to decide which ferrets to vaccinate and which to skip. It
is more inconvenient but safer. You get to be sure there is protection
on board while knowing which ones have high enough titer numbers that
the chance of a reaction is increased. The ones w high enough titer
numbers do not need the vaccine, anyway. At the AFA website look up
Mongo to find the PDF of the Cornell submission form for doing the
titers. The data collection for the study is done but your vet or you
can ask Cornell how to modify the form to have the titers run for your
own use.

My perspective is from being around a rescue dog w CD long ago which
was worse than any vaccine reaction situation I have been through in
our about thirty years w ferrets. Yes, there are things which are worse
and the sudden onset of violent insanity w no facet of the previous
personality remaining is worse, and that is what happened w that dog
a friend had who she had rescued from a pound.
