Boy, I don't know if Mary Mewton opened up a can of worms or stirred up a
hornet nest!!! She wasn't the only one getting emails and phone calls.

From what I've learned, Mary, your information is WRONG. FERRETS ARE LEGAL
IN DETROIT.

I received a call from Eileen Liska, Michigan Humane Society Legislative
Advocate & Founder of HEALPAC (Humanitarians for Environmental & Animal
Laws Politcal Action Committee). She informed me there is no ordinance
in the City of Detroit that prohibits the private possession of ferrets.
Also, Patrice Reed, Licensed Vet Tech at the Detroit Animal Control stated
ferrets ARE legal. Rabbits are illegal because they are considered "farm
animals".

I consider both women credible sources. I hope this settles the issue.

State Representative Lamar Lemmons is still looking into it as of he email
at 11AM today.

BTW, isn't the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak???

Take care,
Dee Gage
