Dervish and I will be (finally!) moving out of my parents' house, and I'm
getting an apartment. The problem is, it looks like the most I can afford
is an efficiency.

I'm worried that Dervish will be unhappy in a small, open space (one larger
room, a kitchen, and a bathroom). However, when we move she'll go from
being a cage-dwelling ferret to free-roam status.

Does anyone have any experience with ferrets in small homes? I figure
Dervish would be happier having a smaller area where she's totally free
than a larger area she can only play loose in for a few hours each day.
Any advice would be appreciated.
