We've taken cross-country trips (4 or 5 days in the car) several times with
assorted ferrets.  On a 9-hour trip, your fuzzies will probably sleep most
of the time, so be sure they have lots of bedding to snuggle in.  Here's an
important tip, though: DON'T leave the water bottle attached to the carrier
while the car is moving.  You will end up with an empty water bottle, wet
bedding, and thirsty ferrets.  Stop every few hours to stretch your legs
and hang the water bottle on the cage for 5 minutes or so, then remove the
bottle and secure it upright somewhere in the car until the next rest stop.
