sharing tears,
   shattered hopes,
      stunned, shocked
sorrowing
 
loss of life
   innocent love
      small companion
gone forever
 
red tape jungle
   official idiocy
      senseless murder
 
rally round
   small friend unforgotten
      vow "for your sake--never again!"
 
always, little one, love
   forgive us humans
      and bless all the other small friends and those who love them
 
we hold you close and cuddle you in memory
  one more furry martyr offered up
