hello, good ferret people. I'm looking for any info. regarding MukMuk.
He's almost seven and was diagnosed with an insulinoma last July. Cancerous
lesions were removed from his pancreas and he's doing great. He's on 1/5 to
1/4 of a 5 mg. tablet of prednisolone twice daily. Recently, he's been
urinating frequently, but with reduced output. His blood and urine's been
tested all with negative results. I've put him on antibiotics just in case.
Unfortunately, I've noticed his hair is thinning. Quite possibly an adrenal
gland tumor, hopefully if it is, it's the left one. I will probably have
the surgery and hope at the same time that any further lesions could be
removed as well. We can't explain the reduced urine output. Too much pred,
he gets no sugar, treats or otherwise. Any tips or guesses would be
appreciated regarding urine output, yes/no surgery... anything.

Now, painfully, I have to say I lost my Shelby last Friday. She had her
left adrenal removed a year ago, but unexplicably overnight she developed
severe insulinoma. I had no warnings like with MukMuk. She seizured once,
she was in the vet's five days hooked up to an IV to regulate her glucose
and stabilize her enough to have surgery on Tuesday. Complete bloodwork
and major organ analyses were performed and nothing glaring or operable. I
had her home 24 hours without an IV and gave her repeated timed doses of
glucose. She had a second seizure and could not bounce back. She got to
rest with her buddies one last time. I had to let her go Friday. She was
born on April Fool's Day 1993 and she left me on Friday the 13th. That
would almost be prophetic if I could feel something.

Please, people... "Don't trouble your ferrets with kindness." I know that's
not how the saying goes, but I can't say the other. They don't need extra
sugar, limit those treats, play with them instead. Hold them, I wish I
could once more.
