Oh, WOW! The same thing happened to me over 20 years ago when I was
working with chimpanzees. The wolf was being taken around the auditorium
and he climbed right into my lap and sat down sniffing me while I stroked
him. His person was saying to me, "It's okay, he won't bite you.", and I
was saying back, "That's okay, the chimps he's smelling on me would!".
(Chimps need a very strong dominance hierarchy and the dominant ones then
have to protect all "below" them even if it means loss of life for the
leaders -- unlike human hierarchies and more moral than the human ones
to my way of thinking. They also challenge the hierarchy regularly, so
bites, concussions, etc., are normal.) Aren't wolves wonderful? I've often
wondered if they'd do that for ferret smells so you solved a puzzle for me.
So neat!

I fell off my stool laughing!

Know what? Someone should collect all of these, get permission to use
them, and sell them to make money for shelter!

There's another vanilla trick, too. Bob Church uses it in bedding he is
drying and then if a ferret is pooping in the wrong spot he puts the
scented bedding down which reminds them of what they sleep in to change
their reactions to the location.

So much vanilla, so little time...
