This document No. 052799 is provided under the auspices of FERRETS, NW,
as a contribution to the Research and Training efforts for the purpose of
improving the maintenance of a pet ferret in the home environment.

TITLE: The ferret survival necklace: its construction, adjustment and use.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this document is to provide basic information
to the ferret owner in the construction, adjustment and use of the ferret
survival necklace, or as often referred to, the "ferret whereabouts
tinkler." Two functions may be satisfied by the ferret when wearing this
survival necklace:

1.) The likelihood that the ferret, when lost and seeking the companionship
of a human being who may not know what a ferret is, may suffer injury and
even death at the hands of a fearful human being, were the ferret NOT
WEARING the survival necklace and attached "tinklebell."

2.) To the ferret owner the necklace and "tinklebell" provide a constant
audible reminder as to the whereabouts of the ferret both inside and
possibly outside the house when the ferret IS WEARING the survival
necklace.

CONSTRUCTION: The ferret survival necklace (FSN) consists of three basic
parts as follows:

See Figure 1. Elements of the Ferret Survival Necklace, "FSN."

1.) A steel ball-chain of approximately 36 freely rotatable 5/16-inch
balls measuring 8 and 5/8-inches (220 MM), 2.) A 2-way linking clip
9/16-inch long with a passthru orifice, and 3.) A brass-coated
tinklebell 3/4-inches long and an oval diameter of 5/8-inch with an
attached linking ring.

INSTALLATION: Ordinarily the FSN would come to you completely installed
and this this paragraph could be skipped. If, on the other hand, you
wished to install and assemble the FSN, please perform the following
simple steps:

                                CAUTION
                        THIS FOLLOWING STEP MAY BE
                        DANGEROUS. BE CAREFUL NOT
                        TO CUT YOURSELF.

End of Part 1. See Part 2 in tomorrow's posting.
