Hello everyone,
 
I called a local vet's office about a rescue and was told by a new
receptionist that he recommended descenting ferrets.  I know this vet and
was quite surprised to hear that from his office.  When I spoke further with
him personally he said he didn't have a policy on descenting but is looking
into one.
 
Last I checked into this, clubs and shelters recommended against descenting
(unless the ferret had no control over foofing).  As I recall, the reasons
were that it did little to control odor (altering controlled most of the
odor, the balance coming from just being a ferret-- oil glands in the skin
etc.), was invasive, expensive, and could lead to rectal prolapse.  Any
printed materials your club has generated that address descenting I need to
pass along to this vet.  Thanks for your help.  I appreciate it.
