Yes I have a friend who has both a bean box and a rice box for her
ferrets.  The beans make a different sound and have a different texture,
and her ferrets sometimes enjoy playing in one or the other.  My guys
have a ball when visiting (she is my regular ferret sitter)!
 
The beans are big enough that they can't be eaten, and don't scatter out
of the box either.  One of these days I'm going to set one up--just need
to get to a store that has big bags o' cheap beans!
