I have an older Heavy Duty top loading washer - was here when I bought
the house 15 years ago, only been repaired once in that time when a
pillow case slipped inside the outer tub. Tuesday night I tossed in
a few pieces of ferret bedding to wash, went on my way doing evening
tasks and didn't hear the typical belt squeak when the washer is
spinning, go check it out and I've got a washer half full of water that
isn't spinning. So I play with the dial a bit, try to spin it by hand,
and it starts draining... all over the basement floor... I look down
as water streams out from under it and quickly push the knob in, then
I decide I've got a concrete floor so let it drain on the floor if it
wants to if it will only spin (yes I'm talking to the washer begging) -
so back to messing with it while it streams water all over the floor.
Couldn't get it to spin but got most of the water out so I pull the
bedding out and squeeze as much water as I can out of it and lay it out
to dry (too wet to put in the dryer). In the meantime there are ferrets
scratching at the off limits barrier door and Serena the ferruppy is
tiptoing around trying to avoid the soapy water looking up at me like
I'm nuts! I throw in the towel and decide to deal with it this weekend.
If I can just manage to get the casing off maybe I can find what
hopefully is only a piece of ferret bedding that slipped between the
tubs this weekend. In the meantime the ferrets have been told NOT to
get their bedding dirty! We have tons of bedding so I can always change
it but without a working washer right now I'd rather not have it piled
up. So far so good, they've been especially clean bedding fuzzies this
week. Please send good thoughts our way that I can figure out how to
open the washer casing and can find the problem AND be able to fix it
myself.

I guess the bright side of this issue is that Serena and I had some
quality time at the laundry mat from 10:15 to 11:45 last night because
there was laundry that had to be washed. I was amazed how much better
my old washer cleaned than those at the laundry mat. My ferrets are
especially messy since we have the outisde enclosure with dirt. And
they get recipe with ferretone so wiping messy chins gets bedding
oiled.

It's been a wicked month, the gutter sprung a leak and water is
streaming into the window sill when it rains, I loaned my lawnmower out
and it came back broken and I can't use it, my car has decided to come
up with a new electrical trick that two mechanic shops can't figure
out, Chubs is insulinomic and in renal failure - going up and down from
day to day, Sully wasn't able to have his tumor removed - though he
doesn't seem any worse than he was before, and there are a few other
issues going as well.
