how old is your ferret???
 
as far as your child you have aproblem that need sto be corrected so
DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILD AROUND THE FERRET!!!
 
do you have a good veternarian???
i would have a check up on the ferret...
 
do you smoke???
ferrets dont like certain smells and WILL BITE BECAUSE OF IT...
do you use that carpet stuff on your carpets???
 
do you or have you EVER flicked, thumped, or hit your ferret???
consistancy here is the key...
 
if your child turned into a biter what would you do???
thats how you have to think about it...
 
since i do not know the age or the history such as hitting and etc...
i can only give this advice:
when the ferret bites this is what you do... scruff and look in the face
and say "NO BITE" (dont yell just use a calm even tone)...then gently blow
once...
 
on the 4th time do the same BUT PUT THE FERRET IN TIME OUT FOR 5mins...
after 5mins get the ferret out and reapeat the whole thing but increase the
time by 5 more min each time...
 
make sure that you wash your hands before you play with your ferret...
i can only assume that either there is a health problem (they will bite
because of that)....OR...
the ferret has been abused in some way (flicking, thumping and etc.)... OR..
you have not been consistant in disaplining the ferret when it nips...
 
i have had personal expierance with this matter...
so you can take it or leave it...but i have rescued abused ferrets that
will bite and latch onto you...YES GOING DOWN TO THE BONE...and i would not
or will not get rid of them...as far as endangering MY CHILFREN...WELL LETS
JUST SAY I AM AN ADULT AND IN CONTROL OF WHAT MY CHILD DOES< WHERE MY CHILD
GOES AND WHAT MY CHILD TOUCHES....
 
see ferrets cannot talk to you verbaly and tell you want exactaly is wrong
with them or what is bothering them...so we as humans have to figure this
out..sometimes that is really hard but between common sense and an
EXCELLENT VETERNARIAN you should be able to figure it out...like i said
before i dont know all the details but it sounds like you were not
consistant...you have to do it the same way each time...you might do it
twenty times a day for months..but eventualy the ferret will understand...
unless there is some sort of a healthj problem...
 
so i am not flaming you at all but you need to understand that your comment
about the child endangered is not neccesary as you are an adult and should
be montering what your child does anyway...
