Dateline: Reno, February 2, 2003
 
On a day known traditionally for a Groundhog in Pennsylvania, other
equally if not more lovable little creatures are making history.  That's
right!  Nevadan Domestic Ferrets are holding a bake sale to help the
budget crunched State of California.  California Fish and Game may hate
the lovable little housepet but the ferrets harbor no such ill feeling in
return.  Upon learning that the Department was going to cut programs like
"Fishing in the City" for inner city children these magnificent mustelids
went into action, forming a commission (not unlike the California Fish
and Game Commission) to determine ways of raisin' funds for their friends
to the West.  When asked to comment on whether he resented the down right
storm trooperish actions by California Fish and Game in seizing
California Ferrets, Jay Jay the ferret responded "I really don't fault
them for their ignorance but I think it's time the DFG crossed the bridge
into the 21 century and admitted that we aren't causing trouble anywhere
and that through license fee's and taxes on ferret care products we can
provide much needed revenue."
 
Items sold at the bake sale included Raisin Bread, Raisin Oatmeal
Cookies, and Raisin stuffed Raisins.  All proceeds were delivered to
the California State Capital by Human, California Ferret Enthusiast.
No Nevadan Ferrets could make the trip due to the fear of possible
confiscation and execution at the hands of California Fish and Game.
But with the money came the ferrets' sincerest hope that they had made
a difference for California kids.
 
Next year domestic ferrets from 48 states and all the Canadian Provinces
(as well as the 150 other countries where ferrets are legal) are planning
on holding similar events to assist the ailing California economy and
promote good will.
