Hey all!
Just a few quick notes. Sorry if some of the topics might be a bit belated,
but I've been gone all weekend and am just now getting caught up.

Some of you might remember that I work at a cat hospital that also sees a
lot of ferrets. We have quite a few cats on Hill's C/D cat food. C/D does
not stand for "cat diet" as someone thought. It's one of several
prescription diets made by Hill's. We use it primarily for cats who tend to
produce a high amount or urinary crystals (where the "C" probably comes
from), which can cause bladder irritation and lead to chronic or recurrent
urinary tract infections. We haven't used it in any ferrets that I can
recall, but we haven't seen much of this problem in ferrets, so I'd say that
the vet who prescribed it is justified and had good reason to use it. It's
still a very high quality cat food and would be more than satisfactory for a
ferret. Hill's also makes several other prescription foods designed for
different things- K/D for cats with kidney disease, R/D for obese cats
needing a restricted diet, etc.

I finally saw a ferret reference! On Jeopardy last week sometime there was
a ferret question. I thought for sure it'd be mentioned here, but I haven't
seen it yet. The category was "ET" (meaning all the 'questions' had to
contain an -et), and the "answer" was "owners of these small pets usually
have their scent glands removed". Amazingly one of the contestants got it
right immediately. I won't pass judgement on the semi-inaccuracy of the
statement- at least it wasn't projecting ferrets in a negative light.

On another note, I want to also give a thumbs-up for The Ferret Store
(NEEPS). I recently ordered some stuff from them for the first time,
including a bag of Totally Ferret, which I'm starting to switch my girls to
(on a side educational note, ferrets should never be switched cold turkey to
a new food because of their delicate digestive tracts). Anyway, I used a
credit card to order, but the card was declined because at the time I didn't
know that my husband had lost HIS card (same account) and reported it as
stolen. Instead of giving me a hard time they just held my order until I
was able to get a check to them, and after that I received my shipment very
promptly. My girls LOVE their clear dryer tube!!!!! Can't wait to get my
ferret funhouse (which is shipped by the manufacturer).

One last thing-
I'm adopting 3 new fuzzies on Thursday! I'm SO EXCITED!!!!!!!! Thank you,
Robyn and Amy, for allowing me to welcome your kids into my ferret family!
I promise that I will take very good care of them, and you're welcome to
come visit any time you like! FML- please help me welcome Gus, Cleo, and
Einstein. They're joining my girls Fidget, Tiny, and Nitozha. I know Robyn
is sad to let them go, but I also know he's making the best decision and
respect him a lot for that. See ya Thursday, Robyn!!

Much love- Jamie
