I am new to ferrets (we have had 3 for a few months), and to the FML. I read w
ith interest and fear (!) the note from the NH Dept of Health on ferrets and ra
bies. I had previously read somewhere that there had only been a handful (2-3?
) of cases of rabies in pet ferrets in the US. I have three small kids (yes, e
ach has his own fuzzy!) and am concerned. PLEASE tell me there is no truth to
the NH statement. What IS going on here? Can a pet ferret get rabies from a c
at who goes outdoors, if the cat is vaccinated? (i.e., can the cat carry rabie
s anyway?). Thanks for any info. I LOVE these creatures (the ferrets AND the
kids) and hope this is all untrue!
