That's the problem - he does not recognize cat or ferret foods.  Mix the dog
foods with 25% cat/ferret and store in a tupperware tub to let the "flavors
mix".  After this tub is almost empty, mix in the cat/ferret up to 50% and
shake and serve.  You should be able to wean them off the dog food, but
eating dog food is better than eating nothing until the diet can be shifted.
Don't rush the high protein stuff, you could cause more damage by feeding
too rich a diet too quickly.
