Nicki,
I add a few cups of "Natures Miracle" to my steam cleaner.  It's an enzyme
solution that is advertised to be safe around pets and children and is sold
for use on pet stains.  It's supposed to digest the molecules of urine and
stool and turn them into carbon dioxide and water...(or something like
that).
