Early morning at the Rainbow Bridge has Muldoone at his appointed spot
awaiting the arrival of a little girl fuzzy by the name of Chi Chi
Marie. She had been very sick for a good while and it was decided
by her familee, she would be taken to the doc and get "the shot" all
ferrets know about.

The music in the wind had begun to change and the sad sweet melody could
be heard dancing softly on the breeze. This song played for each and
every arrival, whispering to their hearts; "you are home wee-one and here
you will rest until you are reunited with your earth family." Muldoone
felt the familiar tingling in his whiskers and he knew another was
coming. The music of the wind danced around him, singing the Ferret
Promise Song, the song told of loss, it told of love and longing, it
sang of the promise that love was eternal, and it sang of the pain of
separation and the sorrow of humans.

The flash of light subsided and then Mully heard the unmistakable sounds
of ferrety feets coming across the planks of the Bridge; the MoonBeam
Express having delivered another ferret whose time on earth had been cut
short.

Mully steps forward to greet the new arrival. "Welcomes to da Wainbow
Bwidge ChiChi, I be Mr. Muldoone, officialist Bwidge Gweeter." Mully
leans forward offering his nose to the little girl ferret.

ChiChi sat down and looked all around at her new surroundings taking in
the fragrance of the flowers growing everywhere, the clean clear air,
and the unmistakable sound of ferrets laughing and playing.

"ChiChi, somebody tells me dat you bees sick for a wong time" Mully
says to the little girl ferret.

"Yes Mr. Muldoone, I bees sick for a wong time, I had wots of hurts but
just wook at me now" and as if trying to prove her point, she jumped up
in the air, landed, and did alligator rolls.

Laughing Muldoone helped the little girl ferret to her feet. "Yes I
can see you have gotten all your strength back and you are feeling much
better."

A cloud seemed to come over ChiChi's face and Mully could see she was
sad about something. "What da matters ChiChi, what be wrong?" Muldoon
asked her.

"I was tinking bout my boyfwiend Hops, he passed afore me and I be
missing him a wot. Odder fewet passed dis way too; and her name be
Penny. I would wike to sees Penny but I wants to see Hops da most."

"ChiChi, dey knows dat you be coming and I awanged for dem to sees you
wight 'way."

Just at that moment, Muldoone sees a streak of fur and instantly this
ball of fur was hugging and kissing ChiChi. "ChiChi, it be so gud to
sees you, I missted you a wot Penny tells her. Tells me how da folks
are, tells me what is going on at home, I wants to hear eberyting" said
Penny.

ChiChi begins to tell Penny all about how thing were back at home. The
hooman-mom and hooman-dad were doing fine.

ChiChi kept looking around, looking here and there, obviously she was
trying to catch sight of something.

"ChiChi, we habs 'nudder surprise for you Muldoone tells her so stand
up, holds out your paws, and cwose your eyes."

ChiChi did as Muldoone told her. She was so excited she could barely
hold still. The little girl ferret stood there with her paws out and
eyes shut for what seemed a very long time. Suddenly she felt a much
larger paw take her delicate little paw into his bigger one. Then she
felt something ever so lightly brushing across her face which made her
wiggle her nose. The delicate flower brushing was replaced with gentle
kisses on her face.

"Can I wooks now? ChiChi asks, I wants to knows who dis be" she said.
With more delicate kisses to her beautiful little furry face, ChiChi
began to think back. Something very familiar about that, there was only
one ferret who ever brushed her face with flower petals and gave her
kisses like that. Was it? Could it be? She had to know and her eyes
flew open. "Hops HOPS!! Is it really you? I have missed you so much"
and tears of joy were streaming down both ferret's fuzzy little cheeks.

"Yes ChiChi it is really me and I have missed you as well. I am so sorry
I had to go and leave you behind. I would not have gone unless I had to.
I did not want to leave you my beautiful ChiChi. We are together again
and nothing will ever separate us. We will wait for mom and dad to join
us" Hops tells her.

Muldoone watched the way Hops held ChiChi so gently in his arms and
planted sweet kisses all over her face. Yes these two ferrets were very
much in love. Their love had survived being separated by death but now
they were together again and nothing would ever come between them.
Nothing.
