Hi everyone,

I'm a new ferret owner - actually, a rescuer. Someone at my previous job
moved to Miami and deserted his two ferrets in his apartment for a month
in August. Once I heard about them, I went over there to rescue them even
though I had never owned ferrets before. I just knew that I could help
them find a new home.

Unfortunately, the male had died (not sure from what), but the 3-yr old
girl was alive. She was skinny and not at all playful. The cage was a
mess; the hammock was in shreds; generally not a good situation. I learned
that the pair had never been allowed out of the cage and never been given
treats other than their Kitten Chow.

I did my research at ferretcentral.org and got all the requirements. I
wasn't sure of her name, so I took to calling her "Lil Monkey". She turned
out to be an absolute love - kissy kissy, loves to play and even take
showers. She has been to the vet and gotten her rabies shot; she's 2 1/4
lbs and has been declared in perfect health. Of course, I fell in love
with this little girl, but my landlord did not. He's from Ireland and
insists that they are hunting animals that should be kept outside and
cannot be domesticated. No matter what I try, he won't come around.

I'm in touch with the Gimme Shelter in Wareham, MA, but I'd like to try
to skip the shelter process - she's been through so much already. I'm in
Boston, MA but I am driving to Long Island/NYC/Jersey City this weekend.
I'll of course be passing through Connecticut. If anyone can take in a
lovely little girl who is so happy to be alive, please get in touch with
me. My work number is (508) 898 8631, and email is above. She is a black
sable (I think) with a gorgeous shiny coat. She has two brand-new cages
(pets.com sent me two by accident...and you wonder why they are out of
business?), lots of toys/food/snacks, and plenty of kisses. She's eating
Marshall Farms ferret food and I am convinced she is the only ferret who
hates raisins.

Thanks so much,
Jen
