After reading the other posts on nail clipping I wanted to explain why I
feel the way I do. Perhaps if I had had the nightmare experience that
others have had, I would feel differently. But my experience was nothing
like the ones I read. I am so very thankful I have a wonderful and
competent vet! He first clipped a tiny piece from the nail. No blood, so
he clipped another tiny little piece. A small amount of blood dripped out
and he let these run into a very small vial. He then placed a cotton ball
soaked in alcohol (I think) over the nail and had me hold it for about a
minute. When I removed the cotton, the bleeding had stopped and there was
just a very small amount of blood on the cotton. Einy never flinched-well,
maybe he flinched a little, but he never screamed-never made a sound.
That afternoon, he played as normal, I never noticed that he favored the
foot and in a couple days, the nail looked like all the others. So, my
experience was not a bad one. Like I said, had it been bad, where he
screamed and bleed profusely, perhaps I would feel differently. I think
this is one of those situations where you go with your own experience and
with how much you trust your Vet. Just my opinion. Please feel free to
differ and have your own!
