Unfortunately, according to the Southwest website, it is only for small
dogs and cats. Also, you need to book it in advance, as they will
usually only allow 1 or 2 animals on any particular flight.

I know that many people are opposed to sending an animal as cargo (in a
cargo carrier, not in the baggage compartment), but in fact, shipping
an animal as cargo is sometimes safer than having them in the baggage
compartment. They will put animals in the baggage area that is
temperature controlled and pressurized, but it is still not as
comfortable as being in the cabin.

Cargo planes do not have a passenger area. The entire plane is designed
for carrying cargo, and is both pressurized and temperature controlled.
As has been pointed out, both Continental and Lufthansa now have
special services for carrying animals, and specially trained personnel
for handling them.
