Hello (-:

My duck soup recipe is pretty simple. One of my ferrets Mikette is
borderline insulinoma. Right now I'm keeping her protein level up
with this duck soup (I give it to her twice a day). Her vet and I
are watching her Blood Glucose level, this recipe has helped keep it
up (from 70 to 80 now!).

Duck Soup for Insolinomics
A nutritional food mix for sick ferrets that helps to stimulate appetite.
There are many different versions of this soup that was named after Lucky
Duck a ferret for whom such a mix was first made. This version helps
raise the protein level safely for Insulinomics

One 8 oz can Vanilla Glucerna (dairy free, diabetic protein drink)
(available at large grocery stores, maybe drug stores)

1 cup dry ferret kibble soaked in enough water to cover and soften
completely, use ferret's regular kibble mix (I use additional 1/2 - 1 cup
of water to make it soupier for my ferret's taste)

1/2 teaspoon Ferretone or Linatone (Optional) I don't use

One jar Gerber stage 2 chicken or beef baby food (tiny jar of pure meat)

One can Science Diet A/D cat food (available at vet offices)

Mix in blender. Freeze individual servings in ice cube tray. Defrost
servings as needed in microwave and serve warm. Check for too hot spots
with finger before giving to ferret.

***ferret websites have additional Duck Soup recipes, and tips on feeding
sick ferrets***

Most fuzzies find this yummy! Some insist on hand feedings, or at least
putting the first fingerful into their mouth so they'll realize they like
it. I make mine a bit soupier with extra water to help them eat it on
their own.
