Dear Lorraine,
 
Your Skitter should most probably have the tail checked by a vet.  It is
most probable they will recommend removal of the growth (cyst).  Although it
may temporarily cause your vain gal to become a recluse-- she will recover
nicely and no-one will ever know she had anything done once the fur grows
back!
