Dooks all !!
 
I just wanted to take a moment to thank Dr. Williams for posting about
Cinna.  I do believe this is something every fert owner should know about :

This was EXTREMELY SCAREY FOLKS !!!  A bright red gellatin like blood.
I thought for sure he was a goner.  My vet later mentioned that, if the
emergency vet had not been fert knowledgable, they may have recommended
putting him down thinking there was serious internal injury.
 
I think I wouldn't head toward a diagnosis of proliferative colitis if
this was the first instance of rectal bleeding, and it occurred after a
traumatic experience as you describe.  Let's wait a couple of days and
see if it recurs (especially before instituting treatment for colitis.)
 
My vet waited a good part of the day for Cinna to poop to see if there were
any complications.  He didn't go at all.  It wasn't until we got home (to
the comfort of his own potty box) that he went.  Normal, well formed, no
blood visible !!!  I have never been so happy to see ferret poop before !
 
Cinna is on Amoxi and Carafate just in case there is any internal damage.
He seems fine and is dooking and running and even got into a wrestling
match with one of the bigger kids !!
