Hello everyone. I have a confession to make. Some time ago, someone wrote
to the FML telling of a ferret who got it's head stuck in a paper towel roll
and gave everyone a warning to be careful of this. I must admit that I did
not believe that this was likely to happen to me (famous last words), so I
forgot about it and continued to let my kids collect empty toilet paper and
paper towel rolls.

Well, at 2:30 this morning, I was awakened to a thrashing sound and muffled
cries. I jumped up and turned on the light and found that one of the
weasels had pulled a roll of paper towels that I keep in the ferret travel
bag out, and my youngest, Spiff (8 weeks old) had gotten his head firmly
stuck in the roll. He had freaked out and managed to completely drench
himself in their water bowl, and he had also sprayed (so *that's* what it
smells like!). I know he was stuck good, because he had tried to push out
with his front paws and had only succeeded in pushing the paper towels part
way off the roll. I had to cut the roll off him to rescue my poor little
punkin, who I then cuddled and treated till he was dry and calm.

Of course, I immediately removed the paper towels from reach, and I also cut
a slit down the side of all the toilet paper rolls (I'm not sure if they
could get as stuck in those or not, but I don't care to take the chance
now). So I guess this is just my testimony that it *can* happen. I'm just
glad I was home to rescue my little one. I can't imagine what would have
happened if I hadn't been there and he had to go through a whole day in that
condition. My poor, poor, little baby...

     Feeling pretty guilty,
     Shelly,
with Hobbes, Calvin, Susie ("We know better.")
and Spiff ("I thought I could get through it!")
