Such profound nourishing sleep. Muddled dreams of shifting scenes. I am
one person. Then I am talking to me. (How important must I be?) Little
leaping body gaily pounces on my body curled beneath the feather quilt.

Am I safe? Perhaps an opening lies above my head. Can my fingers close
off the space in time? Or will she feel my attempt to secure another
hour of sleep?

All will be lost if she discovers the gap. Nudging, nipping, teething
on my tender skin. Does she think to groom me or call me to attention
by her actions?

Hop, hoppity hop across my body. So gaily and high the leap. Her joy
apparent. I smile beneath a cloud of covers. Dreams can wait. Here
across my bed is such a treasure.

I open my heart willingly to a new frosty morn and the soulful eyes
of the little one I love..
