Hi,
For anyone out there not knowing what to do if you cannot find a vet using
Fervac-D then this suggestion, buy it yourself and merely have them give the
shot to your babies..... If your vet is unwilling to provide this service
for your fuzzies health and YOUR peace of mind then start looking for another
vet! You can purchase this vaccine through Jeffers Pet Supply!

[Moderator's note: Or you can just purchase directly from the manufacturer
for even less. And Jeffers has a $50 minimum order to qualify for the low
cost shipping. The problem (in the U.S. anyhow) isn't finding the vaccine.

Vaccinating your own ferrets has been discussed here for years. It is not
all roses. I would encourage all of you who are considering it to think
hard about what you would do in case of a reaction, about the value of
having your ferrets examined regularly and about your comfort level with
things like syringes. I'm not saying it can't work out, but it's not for
everybody either. Probably not for MOST people! BIG]

1-800-JEFFERS!!! This is what I did and my vet was wonderful about it, it
also will cost you about half the price for this vaccine. Jeffers charges
$1.95 for a sm. number of them and $1.85 for 12 or more. Also an
additional $2.49 for 2nd day air so they stay completely cold until
delivery. They are packed w/ice packs to make sure they stay good! Jeffers
also sells syringes and needles at $14.00 or so per 100. I also had my vet
order in Imrab-3 for rabies w/the agreement if I don't use the entire amount
before expiration then I still pay for the Vaccine in full.
[Moderator's note: If you're being charged full rate for the vaccinations
I don't understand why you should have to pay for leftovers. Besides,
Imrab can be used in other animals, like dogs and cats, too. BIG]
Of course I now have 8 ferrets so this will be no problem.... I had
contacted Dr. W. about which vaccines to use and since these ARE the only
ferret approved vaccines I followed his advice and if my vet had refused
then I would have said GOODBYE and he would have lost the income from 3 dogs
and 8 ferrets. He is also encouraging me to learn from him how to
administer the Fervac-D myself so I can save on the cost of soooooo many
vaccinations, I plan to give them to them while actually at his office just
in case there is a bad reaction and then HE can do what is necessary to
counteract the reaction..... I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to
have MY DR. Ken Kabfleisch in Nampa Idaho, DR. Wendy at Petsmart in Boise
Idaho whom I mentioned the other day AND DOC. Williams here on the
FML!!!!!! My fuzzies are most lucky to have them all!!!!!!!!
