My guys get like that sometimes - and then I remember the recipe:
Instant Insanity: just add water.

Take ferrets, douse thoroughly with water, wrap in towel (two ferrets
in one towel is especially good) and rub energetically. Place on floor
and step back. It helps to take a second towel and flick it enticingly,
to give them a target to leap at.

Remedy number two: let them into a room they're not normally allowed
into. Preferably one that's been moved around since last they were
there. Extra points if the reason the ferrets are not allowed there
is that it is the cat's sanctuary. (PS best done with cat absent)
While ferrets are gone from their normal haunts, move their toys.
This should prolong the excitement.

Hope this helps.
Claire
