Howdy all!,

I just had a simple question regarding ferret colors. I daily in the FML
people writing about their 'Butterscotch, Silver Mitt, Siamese etc.' ferrets,
and I am always confused as to what these designations mean. As I have never
been to a ferret show (haven't seen any listed in the Cleveland area yet), I
have not been exposed to these color designations. Does anyone know where I
could get a description of each of the 'standard' colors for ferrets, or
could someone post a list?

To the FML'er with the ferret drooling and scratching at its mouth. Sounds
like insulinoma to me... Might check out the FAQ or get to your vet. See
some of the previous issues (say the last 10 or so) for more information - it
was discussed recently and Dr. Williams replied I believe.

Also I have seen lately that people were interested in building cages of
their own. I made mine out of 1X2 furring strips, hardware cloth and a
removable plywood bottom. Just build a bunch of frames and use staples to
attach hardware cloth (chicken wire would probably work too and it's
cheaper). Then connect the frames together. Cut a piece of plywood for the
bottom and there you have it. As for the door, just use regular hinges and 2
hook and eye clasps for holding it closed. My cage is 3 ft tall bye 3 ft
wide, by 2.5 feet deep. The total cost was about $65.00 and I haven'n had one
escape! Good Luck!
