The other day I was in cleaning the bathroom with 3 little furry
supervisors watching my every move. I heard the screen door quietly open
and close. I was expecting a visitor so had left the door open. The
ferrets didn't hear the door because 1 is dead and the other 2 were too
busy supervising my activities. A couple minutes later I looked down at
Kirby and said "Kirby, we have company, go see who is in the livingroom."
Kirby looked up intently for a few seconds then went to the living room
to see who was there. There is no doubt in my mind that he understood
what I said - there was no noise in the livingroom to alert him, no
command that he would have been familiar with - he understood my words.
This isn't the first time a little one has shown me they have astounding
comprehension skills and I'm sure it won't be the last.

So if you visit us and I talk to the ferrets as I would a human (and I do
talk to them a lot), you now know why. :-)

hugs to all. tle
