If something looks "wrong", a vet visit is usually a good idea. In
general, weighing them regularly and keeping track of their weight
over time is a great way to tell the difference between bloating and
real fat/weight gain.

Even then, you need a vet to determine whether it's really fat, or
if there is a tumor or something else going on.
