My friends live in a town where the water is said to be of questionable
quality, and they have two very sick ferrets, one has been diagnosed as
having cancer of the spleen, they aren't sure yet what's the matter with
the other one. They are wondering whether it could be the bad water (the
people in the house drink bottled water).

[Cancer of the spleen? Unlikely to be water. Our ferret Toby died
of it - we figure it was something congenital. There is some debate
whether this is analogous to Feline Leukemia Virus, but many vets
disagree. The official cause of death for Toby was Lymphosarcoma.]

Does anybody have any knowledge or experience to apply here?

Also, does anybody (preferably in the Western half of North America, even
more preferably in the San Francisco Bay Area) have any young ferrets who
need a home? These folks'll be down to one very lonely ferret if/when the
other two succumb.

They don't have net access, so reply to me...
